ΙЄΡΑ СYΝΚΛΗΤΟС Draped bust of the Roman Senate to left. Rev. Π Κ ΑΤΤΑΛΟС ЄΠΙΝΙΚΙΟΝ ΑΝЄΘΗ - ΛΑΟ-ΔΙ/ΚЄ-ΩΝ Winged Nemesis standing front, head to left, raising her right hand towards her head. RPC IV.2 online 2977.3 (this coin). Extremely rare, one of three known examples. An attractive and very interesting pseudo-autonomous issue of fine style. Some flan faults and with a scratch on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.


The reverse legend of this interesting issue translates as 'P. Kl. Attalos dedicated (this coin) on the occasion of the victory celebrations, (coin) of the Laodiceans'. RPC IV dates the benefaction of P. Kl. Attalos to Laodicea, which includes coins for Marcus Aurelius Verus Caesar, to circa 139-144, meaning that the victory celebrated on our coin was most likely Antoninus Pius' 142 victory on the Island of Britain.
